Canon Stuart R Bell

Stuart comes from Torquay originally but experienced a very clear 'missionary' call to come to Wales over 36 years ago.  Since then he has worked in 3 different parishes in West Wales and has just completed 19 years in Aberystwyth as Rector.  He also works as an unsalaried evangelist with the St. Teilo's Trust taking missions across the province.  All three children have careers of their own and live outside Wales, and his wife Pru, who is a partner in the ministry, is also a JP.  Give him a sea fishing rod and a boat in Cardigan Bay and you'll not hear anything from him for hours.

David Whitehouse

David Whitehouse

I was born to Christian parents and brought up in a local Methodist Church. I came to faith as an adult in pursuit of my careers, attended churches of differing denominations from House Churches to Plymouth Brethren eventually being called into full time ministry in the Connexion of Methodist Churches. Early on in my walk of faith, I developed an interest in Theology – how the Christian faith works. If Christianity is true, then it should have a logic about it. It has, and I have studied various aspects of it and taught it for years. I welcome the opportunity to teach it on the Academy course, I trust to the benefit of students. Our God is great and logical too!

  Robin Morris

Robin Morris

Born and educated on the Welsh borders, Robin graduated from Birmingham University as a minerals engineer. Following post graduate studies in commerce, he went with his wife Cathy to work in Zambia in the 60’ies. In 1966 he returned with his family for further study in both the UK and Belgium prior to returning to Central Africa in missionary service with the Zaire Evangelistic Mission (now the Central Africa Mission). There he initially trained young men and women to serve in the Church as teachers and evangelists before moving on to teach Bible doctrine in the regional bush Bible Schools.

Returning to the UK in 1975, Robin established Tynddol Challenge Centre, a Christian outdoor centre majoring in discipleship training programmes working with other Christian organisations including BYFC, WEC, Wycliffe Bible Translators and BMS. At the same time having worked with the Manchester Business School to help small businesses in rural mid-Wales he was appointed as a finance consultant with an investment banking group.

Since 2000 Robin and Cathy have been employed by Care for the Family organising adventurous family activity breaks. During this time Robin helped to establish the Aberystwyth Academy of Christian Discipleship with special responsibility for the initial outdoor component and the practical modules of the course.

  David Ceri Jones

David Ceri Jones BA, Ph.D. (Wales).

David is passionately convinced that an understanding of the history of the Church is essential if Christians, particularly if they are in full-time Christian service or leadership roles within the Church, are to effectively lead the people of God.

David is responsible for the co-ordination of the Church history element of the Academy course. He sees this as ideal opportunity to enthuse people with the Christian story, both in the British Isles and further afield, and to resource students to draw on the riches of past Christian traditions to address some of today's issues.

David is a professional historian and a Lecturer in History at the University of Wales, Aberystwyth. He is an expert in the history of Evangelicalism in the British Isles, with a particular interest in the historical study of religious revivals from the eighteenth century to the present day. He publishes widely and is the author of ‘A Glorious Work in the World: Welsh Methodism and the International Evangelical Revival, 1735-1750 (Cardiff: University of Wales Press, 2004).
