"Sometimes God will call you to change, quite dramatically, your life. At 48 years old, business doing well, comfortable, house owner and church leader - it happened to me. I was fortunate that I was given the preparation time to do this over a year and most of that year was taken up at the Academy for Christian Discipleship, Aberystwyth. I write this from Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo, where I now work, along with my wife, for BMS World Mission, who partner the Baptist Community of the River Congo.
My time at the academy gave me good study, good guidance and good counsel to determine God's call on my life. It was a place of change for me, a place, even at my age, I have been so grateful to have had the opportunity to visit." |

"'The Aberystwyth Academy of Christian Discipleship was an ideal training ground for my present role in full time Christian work. It equipped me for modern-day ministry and continuously challenged me towards the effective discipleship of Christ. Because of this, I would thoroughly recommend the course."

"One of the most rewarding aspects of my Academy year was the privilege of devoting time to studying the Bible from start to finish. I was left with a lasting impression of the way in which the scriptures drew together into a consistent, precise and beautiful whole, pointing to Jesus. Tracing God's plan through the unfolding of the story of Israel was intellectually stimulating and spiritually satisfying. I still recall the sense of being nourished by the word of God and still feel the impact of those Bible lectures today I still value the contributions of other students on the course. we shared a lot together over our year and this created a great sense of community, fellowship and commitment to one another"
Now training as a teacher age 24 |

"The biggest surprise for me during my year on the Academy course was my passion for young people. Although only in my twenties, I hadn’t much experience of that age group, except from my own youth. I wasn’t the coolest kid at school and hadn’t particularly wished to relive any of it. I was surprise by how enjoyable and refreshing I found it. Young people can have such passion and it’s immense pleasure to engage that passion. The Academy course is great in exposing you to many different activities and situations. I would have never have discovered the wonders of youth work without it. I now run a (non-Christian) youth club in my hometown.
In the Academy course you experience Christian ministry in nearly every form. It can be exhausting at times, but very rewarding. You will study the bible, doctrine, and church history. You will look at the role of worship, the topic of Christian ethics, and the skills of counselling. You will take active part in children, youth, student, family, and elderly ministries. You will take part in outreach work gain experience of different churches and nominations, and get to work along side people from different backgrounds. There are even options of prison visits and work with vulnerable people. I would really recommend the Academy course if you wish to understand your faith more or discover where your gifts and talent lies."
Currently heavily involved in a cambridge church, and a children church leader.

"Being part of the academy course meant that I grew in knowledge of the Christian faith, but also then had the opportunity to live out and put in to practice the things I had learnt. The bible overview with Peter Phipps was definitely the highlight of the course. It was fun, refreshing but also very insightful. Part of the equipping I had in the Academy means that whatever I am doing, I can serve God with confidence and the hope of making a difference."
Currently, I am working locally in Aberystwyth and am applying for Dyfed-Powys Police in the near future. |

"I joined the Academy after three great years studying International Politics at the University of Aberystwyth. The academy offered me the chance to grow in my faith and provide me with a strong foundation for the rest of my life. The course was amazing! I learned so much and made some good friends. The Bible overview that we did continues to help me daily as I read the Bible and try to appreciate God's big plan. " Currently working for Sainsburys near Swindonbut has just applied to spend a year at Bill Johnson's church in California
